ETH 501: Business Ethics
I pass on non confronted any ethical problems in a traditional business line smudge since I am in the military. I have confronted ethical problems within the Air Force over the brook 9 years. The most prominent is in the case of a supervisor I had. The scenario was that our base had a surplus of capital that were to be used to purchase office supplies and equipment that people may need. The supervisor was responsible to oversee what we purchased and actually execute the allege request. He got us together to get our inputs and he started to make comments about buying Office Supplies that we did not really need. He proceeded to write down a list of items like 55 inch LCD TVs and other excessive items. He give tongue to that he felt we as a group be to have better equipment since we were passed over for upgrades for a long time. He also justified it because the Operations group spent $5,000 on a new floor mat to put in front of the building. He felt that was not fair spell our building was falling apart and was constantly being join rather than fixed.
The deontological implications consist of a few theories that are discussed in the reading from this week.
One is the rights scheme, the supervisor felt in this situation that we had a right to have this new equipment and so he got it for us. This also falls into the fourth commerce based theory which encompasses a few different viewpoints Fidelity: the duty to carry through promises, Reparation: the duty to compensate others when we harm them, Gratitude: the duty to give thanks those who help us, Justice: the duty to recognize merit, Beneficence: the duty to improve the conditions of others, Self-improvement: the duty to improve our virtue and intelligence, No maleficence: the duty to not injure others (Fieser)
