The British Colonies in the New World Essays -- United States History
The British Colonies in the New WorldSeveral historians often leaven significant points in history in attempt to discover the reasons the events occurred. The aforementioned statement applies to the American Revolution as countless number of books has been written concerning the American colonies decision to declare independence from England. Woody Holton and Bernard Bailyn are two historians who have probed the subject and reached two separate decisions about the revolution. Focusing on the fears and threats the colonists felt, Bailyn identifies England as the grim force against the colonists, while Holton gears towards those within the colonies. Before examining the two authors views, exploring the terms liberty and power are essential in comprehending the colonists fe...

The Power of the Liberal Narrative Essay -- Liberal Narrative Essays
Trudging through the mountains of facts, studies, and opinions relevant to social and political issues creates a daunting task for political strategists, leaving them to decide what information is relevant and immanent for the voting public to know, in order to rally the voters to entertain a certain candidate. However, these mountains of facts and opinions can turn off voters, and scare away many electromotive force supporters, forcing political strategists to also engage the emotional lives of the populace enter the role of cultural narratives- tales of adventure, sacrifice, defeat, and victory grabbing hold of the emotional lives of the audience, and as George Lakoff points out, politics is about the narratives of our gloss and our circumstances make available to all of us to live (35). The key to the liberal narrative is empathy not solely feeling empathy, but acting on this empathy. George W. Bush and his campaign staff knew this and employed it very successfully in the 200 0 election with his slogan the compassionate conservative. And while John Kerry and the Democratic Party may have forgotten this essential point of politics, Hollywood remembers vividly the formula of the classic liberal narrative and this has led to the creation of many films which are the diethyl ether of the liberal tale. The liberal narrative existed in the heyday of the Hollywood silver screen, and no better example exists than John Fords The Grapes of Wrath. Fords classic tale, based on John Steinbecks novel of the same title, immediately begins its liberal narrative. Early in the film when Henry Fondas purpose Tom Joad asks a truck driver for a ride, which is not allowed by the drivers boss indicated by a sticker saying no riders allowed/inst... ...to their feet. The liberal narrative is a staple in achieving political victory and if someone wants to learn how to successfully create one, he or she need fount no further than these films. They contain the heart and soul of the liberal campaign and if the liberals create more films of this breed and of this caliber, there is no telling how much their support will grow. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Essay -- essays research papers fc
Born on February 27, 1807, in Portland, Maine, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was raised in a Puritan family with three brothers and four sisters. While ontogeny up he kept a good relationship with his family members. Longfellow spent many years in foreign countries to further his horizons. Longfellows solitary manner style would not be expected from his extreme success in poetry (Williams, p.26). Longfellows boyhood home was built by his grandfather, Peleg Wadsworth, in 1784-86, and was the first brick hold in Portland. As a memorial to the poet, the house is still standing today. Then the house was by the seaside, where Longfellow could hear the rhythmic roar of the ocean. Probably a great deal of his writing for his rhythms in his writing came through his listening to the wind and waves. Longfellow always visited there, especially up to the time of his fathers death in 1849 (Williams, 29). The spiritedness of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) was a mixture of triumph and tr agedy, fulfillment and disappointment. His youthful ambitions were all literary, but to please his father he became a teacher. During the eight years he taught language at Bowdoin College and eighteen years at Harvard, he never quit writing. The Government Census Should NOT Focus on Race :: social issues
The Government Census Should NOT Focus on RaceLets be honest, does it genuinely matter what break away you are? I mean does it really matter where you come from? The color of your skin, the culture and value you carry. Unless you are oppressing one race to feel good about yourself, Why should race matter. The fact is, It shouldnt matter as long as you are honest and is respectful to others. Im sure that roughly of us have experienced this to some extent When you make a friend who is from a different race, do you still classify him or her as black, white, tall or short, Fat or skinny, someone with long hair or short, Or someone with no legs on a wheel chair, Old or young? No You get dressedt, although you might think of these every now and than, you dont constantly think about these things. If someone constantly thinks about them, for me it means that there is something I dislike about it, and in either case I would probably end the relation anyway. It is for this exact reason tha t I dont rely that race should non play a huge role, if any, in our society. When the Government Census is surveying Americans, although this is not the intention of the survey, its definitely not doing me the favor of having to categorizing me race. Many assumption and problems can arise from categorizing society by race, such as stereotyping, obstacles to job qualification and disruptions of peace in society.I realize the motivating for differentiation and diversity after all it is what makes each and one us very unique and fascinating. However, Im not suggesting that we should all fall for the melt down pot ideology either, But simply to have an open mind and see our selves as an American, and not categorize each other for any reason. For instance, if something is bury we wouldnt think about it right Discrimination works somewhat the same way if the issue of race is constantly being raised as factor to everything we do in society, then people will instinctually differentiate or learn to discriminate against one another. Since discrimination is something taught or experienced and not inherited, society can learn to avoid stereotyping and discrimination among each other- by letting go of old ideals and mythology. For instance, when I came to America years ago. I could go anywhere and talk to anyone I pleased in the whole city.
The runabout car :: essays research papers fc
In the 1920s, the automobile industry was being quickly innovated by companies coming out with new cars, very quickly. In 1901 the new Detroit factory burned down and the only automobile to be rescued from the flames was a gasoline powered run nearly, the curved dash Oldsmobile. Also in 1901, there was a discovery of a seemingly inexhaustible supply of oil near Beaumont, Texas. These rich deposits of petroleum made gasoline readily acquirable and gave added impetus to the internal combustion engine in its competition with steam and electric power. In March, fires destroyed most of the Olds Plant and the only car that was deliver was the Curved Dash olds. Olds re create immediately and put all the production resources into the little Curved Dash Olds, the Merry Oldsmobile. A car was envisioned which weighed 500 pounds and could be sold for $500. Actually, when the famous Curved-Dash Oldsmobile runabout car was finished, it weighed 700 pounds and was sold for $650. Between 1901 and 1904, over 12,000 Oldsmobile cars were built and sold. This was the archetypical volume production car in the world. Speedometers appear first on Oldsmobile. To serve as an advertisement, a Curved Dash Olds was driven from Detroit to New York. This was the longest automobile trip that had been made in the U.S. until that time. Later, in about 1923, standard equipment included four wheel brakes, foot-controlled headlamp dimmer switches, and power operated windshield wipers. On Feb. 2, "Ethyl" gas was first put on the market. The final priced T was the runabout, selling at $265. 1908 October 1, Henry Ford put the first of his Ts on the road. The 4-cylinder, 20-horsepower T was available in two styles. The runabout sold for $825, the touring for $850. During the move three months of 1908, the Ford Motor Company sold 6,000 cars. William C. Durant sold 9,000 Buicks during 1908. The Ford Motor Company greatly outpaced its competitors in reconciling state-of-the-art design with moderate price. Cycle and Automobile Trade Journal called the four-cylinder, fifteen-horsepower, $600 Ford N (1906-1907) "the very first instance of a low-cost motorcar driven by a gas engine having cylinders enough to give the shaft a turning impulse in each shaft turn which was well built and offered in large numbers." Deluged with orders, Ford installed improved production equipment and after 1906 was able to make deliveries of a hundred cars a day.

Internet Marketing :: E-commerce business Marketing Essays
Internet MarketingMarketing is currently standing verge of the greatest change in lifestyle, which he has ever undertaken. solely around the globe businessmen and other entrepreneurs are racing to cash on the future of marketing. Tradition is being turned on its head as all of free enterprise begins plans to phase out age-old methods to more effective and cost-conscious world of the Internet. Their logic is not too difficult to understand. Last year, American businesses spent millions of dollars advertizement their products by magazine, newspaper, radio, television and mass mailers. They flooded the homes of America, targeting every breathing carbon based life form they could find, with countless jingles, images, song and move in an attempt to peddle their often unwanted goods. This type of nuclear marketing (dropping a power load at a random persona of the population) has been the backbone of corporate America. Times, however, are a changing. With the deregulation of the Internet in 1991, the federal government opened the door industry to the potential of advertising twenty-four hours a day, almost free of charge to anyone in the world who accessed their link. While it is true that this new advertising is not seemingly as direct, it does fork out a marketing tool that directly targets interested parties. Their largest problem with traditional marketing stems from the fact that, in order to determine who is interested in a product, the business would have to ask everyone. Changes in information access are forcing the game to evolve. Now businesses can enjoy presenting their product to those who seek them out. Moreover, this new media renewal costs almost nothing to set up. It is clear that traditional marketing is approaching a revolution. It is a twitching dinosaur who is awaiting his doom. As the world continues to interline itself, business forgetalter the way in which it reaches its customer. Those who evolve will prosper. Thosewho do not sh all perish. The Internet is a world wide network of tens of thousands of computers, allconnected. Individuals and businesses get on the Internet by getting an Internet accountthrough a local Internet Service Provider, offering access to e-mail and the World largeWeb. The Web allows potential customers to visit a businesss storefront to the world, and view the companys on-line color brochure stored in pages or files which can beviewed in both text and picture.

Marijuana Should Be Legal for Anyone over 21
hemp should be legalized for recreational purposes to anyone over 21 years of age. Marijuana has been proven to be safer than alcohol, yet stomachnabis is against the law. alcoholic drink is known to contribute to acts of violence and crime, while in most cases cannabis can reduce aggression in its social function uprs. In last years cases of reported violent crime three million offenders had been drinking. Almost whole cases of date rape, sexual assault, and domestic violence had roughly kind of connection to alcohol (Medical Fact Marijuana is Safer Than Alcohol, 2009). Marijuana has not been linked or has been left absent from any of those type of crime reports.Alcohol-related craft accidents have gone down in the past 20 to 30 years however, they still kill approximately 14,000 lives every year according to MADD. The song for tetrahydrocannabinol-related traffic deaths are very rare because most of the deaths in these cases the driver was also under the influence of alc ohol or different drugs. However, there is curtilage from a number of studies, including some laboratory simulations that give power to the idea that people under the influence of cannabis seem to be aware of their afflicted motor skills, and two tend to drive below the posted speed limit.People under the influence of alcohol are more likely to insensible or defiant about their impaired state and most tend to speed or drive recklessly (RN, How Many People Actually throttle from Marijuana and Alcohol, 2010). Some of the main concerns about legalizing marihuana are if marijuana causes any type of cancer or long time health effects. Alcohol abuse as we know can contribute too many different long-term negative health problems, mainly cirrhosis of the liver and other types of cancers. There are some doctors that state that a small quantity of alcohol, taken daily, is good for salutary health effects, alcohol is still one of the wipe up drugs that someone could take for pain managemen t (Kaufman, 2008). Marijuana has not been linked to cause any type of cancer but instead is used to diplomacy some side effects of cancer and cancer treatment. Studies have been done to see if marijuana has any link to causing cancer. Donald Tashkin from the University of California Los Angeles is a pulmonologist that has analyse marijuana and its effects for over 30 years. He stated that New findings were against our expectation. A study was done were we hypothesized that there would be an association between marijuana and lung cancer, and with heavier use of the drug that the link would be even more positive. Instead we found that there was no association at all, we even found that THC might have some protective effects against cancer (Tashkin, 2009). Many states have already made marijuana legal for medical use because of all its positive effects on the user. Some government officials are trying to keep marijuana illegal because they say it is a gateway drug, and will temper chi ldren to harder drugs such as methamphetamine and cocaine. However the RAND study performed by the U. S. National Household Survey on Drug Abuse (which measures patterns and frequency of self-reported drug use among Americans) found that Marijuana experimentation by adolescents does not lead to the use of harder drugs, and that teenagers who tried hard drugs were predisposed to do so whether or not they tried marijuana. Almost anything can be called a gateway drug in todays time. Most people can remember a popular candy know as Candy Cigarettes. Candy Cigarettes that are exactly the way you remember them as a kid. Each pack has 10 white candy sticks with a red tip, ready to be rolled up in your T-shirt sleeve (Oldtime Candy Company, 2010). I asked my parents about my use of Candy Cigarettes. When you were 8 or 9 you always wanted to act cool like the older guys on our street. You would always ask for those things, and you and your best booster shot would stand outside playing with t hem.If I would have known that it would have led to you really smoking I would have never bought them (Anderson, 2011). The statement marijuana is a lot safer than alcohol cannot go unchallenged and should be debated. One important subject is the risk that marijuana use (especially in young adults) can lead to some kinds of mental illness. Studies support findings that risk of schizophrenia doubles in young abusers (U. S. National Household Survey on Drug Abuse, 2009). accord to Joseph Califano Jr. CASA founder and chairman of Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) If we were to make marijuana legal and evaluateed it, for approximately every dollar of tax revenue, there could be as much as seven dollars incurred in medical costs. Legalizing marijuana would mean that it would be easier for the drug to get in the hands of kids. According to CASA findings Despite reported declines in teen marijuana use in 2007, almost eleven million teens report using marijuana. Marijuana is a major center field that is being abused among teens in America.More than five times the step-up in such findings for all other substance abuse. With marijuana becoming so popular again with teens most people believe that we should keep the drug illegal. Marijuana should be legalized for recreational purposes to anyone over 21 years of age. Studies have shown that it is safer than alcohol, and is being use by a wide spread of society. Money from taxation of marijuana can be used to put on schools, decrease the deficit, and lower prison rates and populations for minor offenders and misdemeanors.Marijuana has not been shown to cause cancer, but instead help with some of the side effects. As well up as reduce aggression in its users. No Drug is good and all of them need to be regulated in some type of way. However, marijuana use is not going stop. We as a society need to control it and gain from it. Legalizing marijuana and putting laws, similar to the ones for alcohol, in effect would increase the use of marijuana amongst our society, but it would also bring in money that is in great need for our schools.

General Ethical Perspectives Essay
Leadership is unremarkably impelling when leading are motivated. Self drive is important to attain good leadership. Motivation for leaders is usually cultivated by the getting concerned with others. Leadership is further built by the development of ethical prospects such that there is a clear road map on what leaders are required to do and what they can omit. Leadership personalities differ from person to person and high example standards are required for loadingive leadership. Nevertheless whatever is moral in near communities may be immoral in a nonher culture. For a leaders to fit in contrasting cultures they must be culturally diversified in their leadership techniques. Ethical leadership is developed depending on an organizational culture. Different cultures are developed otherwise for different organizations. There are institutions that promote then culture of morality while others may develop a culture of corruption. There are no definite universal codes of ethics des igned for particular organizations or associations. However, there are well developed general ethical leadership theories used for the aspire of encouraging unique leadership techniques and moral stability for leaders. This essay discuses general ethical theories or approaches used on the selection of moral choices. A mixture of general ethical perspectives such usefulism, Kants Categorical Imperative, Justice as Fairness, Communitarianism, Altruism, Ethical Pluralism are discussed. Utilitarian ethical perspective is a theory ground on motive of promoting the well universe of the majority of state within a fellowship. According to utilitarianism theory, ethical choices are depended on their repercussion. In this effect, most leaders explore possible outcomes to their deeds when they make decisions.Utilitarianism advocates for decisions whose profits outweigh its demerits. These benefits are expected to meet more needs for the majority. In other words, utilitarianism seeks to extend spectacularer good to most people. Many leaders approach situations from a perspective of utilitarian approach in making critical leadership decisions. In some situations whizz evil may seem a solution and a source of satisfaction of majority of the community. For instance, lying may protect someones dignity. Although the lie may protect one leaders dignity, lies are considered unethical and destructive than constructive.A good example of such leadership is the case of president Truman of U. S, who decided to end the war in pacific by dropping atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This was an ethical decision towards the safety and security of Americans. However, it was at the expense of thousand of lives of Japanese. The war stopped, but the world wondered why the president thought that atomic bombs were the solitary(prenominal) solution to ending the war. Another outcome was a consistent exploration of atomic bombs and on ground nuclear power test which resulted in num erous cancer cases on humanity. This is because the public was not conscious(predicate) of the effect on nuclear radiations effect and the leaders did not enlighten them in safety measures. This ethical decision was reached at when the president of America effect it more beneficial to safeguard the lives of American than it would cost him in dropping the bombs. He pleased his people by securing them from the war. In contrast, Kants categorical shrill philosophy advocates that we must do the mightily thing regardless of its underlying costs and benefits.Leaders are encouraged to follow the rules of morality that we may not need to tell a lie or kill one person for the sake of saving many. Kant uses deontological ethics in which he applies moral reasoning. For instance, he says that if we want to make choices in an important issue it is important to reason first and validate our decision. We should be able to take a decision only if the rest of our society would also pick on the sa me. In other words, if one is guilty, then they are taking the wrong decision. According to Kant, it is always just to tell the truth no matter the cost but cheating is always wrong.Several wrong can not make a right just as several lies will never make a truth. Although most leaders use the led as a promoter to an end, they should call for that humans ought to be treated as the end itself. It is undisputable that humans can be used for the success of others, but they should be respected and back up moral in capacity building. The society need to be encouraged and empowered in decision making as well as being protected against harm. In this context it is not right for production firms to pollute the environment without the necessary public safety awareness and protection.According to this philosophy one should be ready to help the needy, since the failure to help them is incapacitating them. They need to be encouraged to work and persist in doing right against wrong. Justice as fairness is philosophy that encourages equality of opportunities and rights to all, which works against ignorance. John Rawls researched on justice as fairness and documented some of his articles. In his research, he realized that utilitarian principles would not be applicable in society. According to him, when the largest benefit to the society is delivered there would be some marginalized groups within the members of the society. Some individuals may never be advantaged at any one point. He therefore encouraged the formation of corporations within the society which would comprise of free, democratic and equal citizen. He believed that this category of people would always strive to alleviate any inequalities among them. They would always try to promote their limited and varied talents and capabilities. For instance, he pointed out that if a national leadership decides to pull in ones horns corporate taxes, the beneficiary is the firm owner and not the free citizens. In the light of utilitarian principles, generally national economy would grow but citizens must cover for the lost corporate taxes thus thy end up being disadvantaged. Rawls advocates for equality of rights to access basic liberties thus emphasizing similarity of liberties across the society. He further insists that economic and social difference should be aimed at the satisfaction of conditions of fairness in equality of opportunity availability to all and development of great advantages to the less intimate in the society.According to him, discrimination of whatever kind gender or race, poor, immigrants, disabled or marginalized, need to be alleviated. It is clear that inequality exists naturally, but leadership needs to focus on the elimination of the differences. The disadvantaged must be uplifted, empowered and directed towards personal development which has an overall effect of their well being and overall development of the national economy at large. Equality must be sought in opportunity a vailability, liberty provision, and grapple for the disadvantaged.Communitarianism is a philosophy of the 20th century in which individualism was shunned, and communal activity and ownership embraced. These involve the redefinition of individual rights, citizenship relationship with civil responsibility and feeler of public security, safety and health. Redefinition of legal right to the traffic rules and regulation ensure safety for more road users in within the communitarian society. Civic rights communitarians society means taking part in civic responsibility like serving the jury.Communitarianism involves the promotion of community health through the provision of necessary team cooperation, participation, community maintenance, affirmation, and diversification of amenities to serve that community. Collaborative leadership is encouraged in the communitarian. This encourages problem solving based on the collaborative leadership representation in which leaders from diverse categor ies take part in the solution of civic problems. Altruistic leadership approach emphasizes on leadership principle promoting high moral values some of which are developed from Christianity and Judaism. This kind of leadership acknowledges hospitality, generosity, empathy, concern for others as well as compassion, in with leadership should promote love for immortal and for humanity. This kind of leadership is the driving force in many social organizations. Volunteer work, good turn and spirit of giving to the poor and less privileged is advocated for. Through altruism, leaders are bound to experience more risks on behalf of the led. Ethical pluralism is whereby all several ethical theories of leadership are merged and beneficial concurrently. The mixture of the five approaches of ethics is very important in the solution of particular ethical problems and making decisions that would otherwise not be made by use of a single approach. In general leadership is developed by a combination of various leadership principles and personalities. Different Ethical leadership perspectives are used by different leaders to lead the society. Deferent leadership decisions are based on different ethical perspectives. Reference Johnson, C. E. (2004). coming upon The Ethical Challenges of Leadership Casting Light Or Shadow. 3rd Edition. Among the Hidden Reflection Essay
Among the hidden and Among the Impostor is part of the phenomenal series called The shadow children book. This magnificent book is by Marg art Peterson Haddix. Her writing is very complex yet descriptive as well, making it easier to understand the mystery book. She has countless memorable novels such as Turnabouts, Just Ella and Running out of Time. After I get hold of this amazing series, I am hoping to read these outstanding novels. Thats why I decided to start of reading her best-selling book Among the hidden. The lesson I erudite during this book was not to betray your friends. This is because a teenager named Jason told the race police his friends real names and that they are third children. When the police came, he checked their files and disparate names were posted and Jason was shocked and stammering. Then, he got arrested and went to jail.I recommend this outstanding book to grade 6 and above. Mainly because there are some unfitting words in the book which isnt a severe word youll see adult use or compensate high school kids when they are talking with their friends. This is a mystery/suspense book with lots of surprises happens throughout the book same(p) in the second book, Luke wants a fake Id and gets it however the population police comes but doesnt get caught which you wont understand because he never does any bad action. There is also sadness like in the first book Jen gets shot at presidents house which was also a surprise. If youre grade 6 and above and do mystery/suspense and sadness then its a great choice to read these book.My favourite character is Luke because in both of the books because of his loving personality, he is nice, caring and respectful. He possess very good characteristic which will help him get good friends who will not tell on him on the population police because he is the third child, none of his friend does except Jason and he got his consequences. He posses these characteristic because when he teacher, parents and classmate treat him really bad, even though it tortures him he doesnt do anything to get revenge. However, even though they do that he still respects them and does what they want him to do.Finally, my favourite part in these books was when Luke was brave enough to talk to Jason gang and tell them they stepped on his garden but before that moment in his life he was a shivery cat. This showed me how much he changed from book one to book two. Unlike other series which the character usually has the personalities, but Jason was a different person.

Compare and Contrast: Hunger Games
Dystopian literature is when the world is focused on making the hone world. They often have a small percent of quite a little making the perfect race or often known as the favorites, and the rest of the population, often a majority of battalion, are left to survive by themselves, on the bottom of the barrel. In The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and the movie Gattaca are both dystopian media. In tough times both the kick the bucketly and poor come together to fight through what the government set show up to say wouldnt happen, in both medias. In both dystopian medias Hunger Games and Gattaca want a perfect world. They are both similar both types of governments want to disclude the non-perfect race.People from Panam and Gattaca are nice, for sheath Cinna in Hunger Games and The Doctor in Gattaca therefore, The Hunger Games and Gattaca are similar dystopian medias. In both the Hunger Games and Gattaca in tough times the rich and poor come together to dish out each other. In the Hunger Games Katniss made friends with Cinna from the capitol. This happened because she seen the shape that Katniss was in when she got to the training center. I think Cinna really did care and didnt want to just boost Katnisss confidence. I think Katniss seen how rough it was in territory twelve and thought she could help Katniss.Cinna over passed the fact that she was from the capitol, to go out of her way to make sure Katniss was to the best of her health entering the games. I think Cinna helped to comfort Katniss by doing GIRLY things to her by doing her hair temporary removal out, to help Katniss take her mind off dying or back home. This was similar to Gattaca because when Vince had the lifelong goal to get to space. The Doctor help him pass him fake I.D. and so Jerome who got injured out of the country let him take his I.D. to help him get there even though his centre of attention wasnt capable of going to Gattaca. Therefore, I Think the Doctor and Jerome seen that Vince could go but had to get passed the government who wouldnt let the non-perfect people through. This is why in tough times know subject field where you come from, rich or poor, people come together to help one another. In The Hunger Games and Gattaca the governments are to make the perfect world. The governments are out to disclude people. The government in Gattaca doesnt treat e veryone equal. If you have any little disease or personality that differs you from the rest of the population. Like Jerome he has a heart defect he has to change his identity to accomplish, his lifelong goal, of going to space. The Doctor help Jerome get through the government to getinto space. The Doctor does this because he himself has a child with a defect as well. In the Hunger Games the government chooses two tributes to compete in the Hunger Games. They pick two from every district and never any from the capitol. The people in the capitol are rich. And some districts are better off than other districts. Like for example district 12 is very poor and they starve to supply the capitol with coal. And the capitol that are rich, fed, heat, and are healthy do nothing. The people in the capitol are usually born perfect and get to live there. But the people in the districts get treated like dirt by the capitol. They fend for their life with no food and little heat and electricity. Therefore this is why both dystopian literatures are very similar. Another similarity is that in both dystopian stories people in the capitol or Gattaca come together with people in poorer areas. Like districts in Hunger Games and the defected births in Gattaca. They see that even though they are different they can still accomplish what the perfect people can. Like in Gattaca when Vince gets help from the guy that got injured but no one knows where he went so Jerome helped Vince to take his identity. He did this because he seen that Vince was just as intelligent as him. And he was already over the limit of when he w as going to die. After he got his identity changed from a defect to a perfect person he got Jeromes DNA.Then he went through to Gattaca and a The Dcotor let him through. The doctor let Vince whom was now disguised as Jerome through. He did this because the Doctor also had a child with a heart defect. And the Doctor wanted to use this as an example that you can do anything in life even if you are different. In the Hunger Games it is the same too when Cinna from the capitol makes friends with Katniss and gives her a sense of comfort. Cinna does this to take katnisss mind of the games and from being away from home.Cinna comforts Katniss by doing girly things like doing her hair and hanging out. This is another example in how the understanding nice people come together even though people are different. This is another example on how the people come together when they see even if they are different, they can do what anyone can.

Courtroom Participants Professional Standards Essay
For the purpose of this paper I will be discussing the questions posed in the course syllabus by my professor* Prosecutorial Mis ask * Prosecutorial misconduct is best described as misappropriated acts put ond by a prosecuting officer to persuade a jury to wrongly convict an separate accused of a crime or securing a severe denounce that may not be justified towards the actual crime. Often times there ar occurrences of one-on-ones that ar wrongfully convicted, many of these individuals are incarcerated for extended periods of time before their cases are even heard or brought before a jury.* unable(p) assistance by criminal counselAn attorney providing ineffective assistance tail be considered as those occurrences when the service provided by an attorney to a defendant designates to be ineffective and in doing so, would be a violation of the Sixth Amendment of the Constitution. Ineffective assistance of counsel is defined in the Supreme Courts ruling surrounding the landma rk case of Strickland v. Washington (1984). In order for a defendant to prove ineffective assistance, the individual would first have to provide proof that demonstrates that his counsels performance was unable due to the attorney vex a large number of errors. Secondly, the defendant must demonstrate that the attorneys errors directly impacted the defendants case prejudicially. In this instance prejudice takes on the meaning of.the trial would have resulted in a different outcome it not for the fact of the attorneys errors resulting in the sentencing be affected.* Judicial misconductJudicial misconduct refers to the judges conduct and the fact that they are constantly in the view of the public, so they are held to a high number in the area of respecting the individuals they interact with on a daily basis as well as all defendants that appear before them in tourist court.* Real life storiesMy substantive life story on prosecutorial misconduct focuses on the case of Raymond Towl er, who was convicted on the charge of rape of an eleven year old little girl and completed 30 old age of a sentenced life sentence trying to convince the courts of his innocence. Assistant partition Attorney Bill Mason motto of win no matter what resulted in him eliciting testimony that he knew, or had been advised was in accurate. Mason interviewed a police detective who stated in court that Towler never denied raping the eleven year old however, notes written by the detective himself during his investigation supported Towlers claims to not having raped the child. In responding to Masons questions, a police officer provided testimony that Towler had whatever form of an indecent communication with the child prior to the rape. Yet police records indicated that it was Chris Towler, Raymonds chum salmon, who had communication (which was appropriate) with the child. tied(p) with a variety of inconsistencies present, a misled jury still convicted Towler. The mistake the prosecutor made was that he did not utilize sufficient evidence in the case or the fact that Towler wasnt nowhere coterminous the area or the fact that he never even came in contact with the child, physically or verbally. He also failed to utilize the statement taken by the officer concerning to it organism Towlers brother that was in the area where the act supposedly occurred and had the documented conversation with the child. Without these little pieces of evidence being presented Towler was sentence to life in prison and had spent 30 years incarcerated. How do you replace the time that individual lost? What form of immunity provides protection to the prosecutor pertaining to consequences of misconduct? By the guidelines set forth in the legal dictionary Prosecutors are afforded totally immunity for any actions committed before a bossy Jury or a trial. However, while conducting the investigatory phase, only qualified immunity is granted to them.In the case of Kalina v. Fletcher, (1997), i t was ruled by the United States Supreme Court that absolute immunity was not a right entitled to prosecutor in regards to his/her actions of allegedly submitting false statements of facts in an Affidavit supporting the coating document for an arrest warrant. Consideration of policies regarding merited absolute immunity contains interest of both protection of the prosecutor of harassing litigation that would disrupt the required time or the attention allocated for official duties and the interest towards providing him/her the capacity to utilize independent judgment pertaining to decisions on which suits to file and pursue in court. Another example of a real life story pertaining to judicial misconduct would be the case involving Samuel Kent, Mr. Kent served as a judge for oer 18 years, but was now being sentenced to three years inside a federal prison for lying about inappropriate conduct towards his staff, of which two provided physical evidence as to number of years they both e ndured various assaults by the judge who was for the most part intoxicated. The pattern of sexual misconduct tell at the judges co-workers along with constant violations of workplace intoxication are obvious wrongdoings committed by the judge. It is my opinion that performing elections would be better suited process for judicial selection due to its ability to allow the citizens to make their own choice as to who should represent them through the process of researching them first. While sure as shooting recognizing these acts of misconducts occurring within our criminal justice system, how we propose deter criminal acts on the streets when its evident we can not deter it inside of our courts and legal system. Then when you factor in the occurrences of individuals being incarcerated and then being found innocent and having to be compensated through local and state funds that we other citizens are responsible for not to mention the lost of time these individuals lose from their life, friends, and family which honestly begs the question how could any amount of money replace this time. In my opinion, we as a society really need to make ourselves more than aware to the fact that these issues require addressing in our criminal justice system. We really need the accessibility of supererogatory resources required to fill more jobs with truly qualified individuals versus our penchant for sacrificing ourselves to individuals with recognizable names or higher government officials who claim to have or best interest at heart when certain decisions they make appear to be the complete opposite.ReferencesSchmalleger, F., & Hall, D. Zen Mind, Beginnerââ¬â¢s Mind
dose see, dons Mind is a discussion created by Shunryu Suzuki in adjudicate to introduce the institutionalise of dot Buddhism in American culture. The study of Buddhism is inharping for Suzuki believed that it can be employ to allday mechanisms of life. The signification of acquiring and owning the panelling spirit can service of process volume to determine and thitherfore practice the right way of life, the right manners, postures and the beliefs which would h unmatched the total spirit of an single(a). dit Philosophy teaches that in that respect is just a thin strain marking the difference between the Zen mind and the novices mind. Both have the capacities to blow over its nirvana or mysterious submit of mind though they contain differences with their corresponding characteristics. At first, the book Zen mind, Beginners mind lily-whitethorn be challenging to understand. However, as you go along and read between the lines, Suzuki uncovers the truth of reach ing reasonableness through unbiased cognition and acceptance of oneself. The different procedures of the Zen were concisely summarized in this single spatiotemporal book. This book would help quite a little make out the several options in life which would make people return objectively and not plump rigid. Zen Mind, Beginners Mind Introduction Zen mind, Beginners Mind is a book created by Shunryu Suzuki in attempt to introduce the practice of Zen Buddhism in American culture. The study of Buddhism is essential for Suzuki believed that it can be applied to everyday mechanisms of life. The emphasis of the practice is to integrate the clay and the mind through certain meaningful deeds which alleviate a mortals stress and even help a person overcome the reachation of negative energies. The focus of this report is to im federal agency the significance of learning the practice of a Zen mind by becoming the absolved beginner who is expected to be flexible to learn Zen. As the re ader uncovers the secrets proper way of living and dealing with ones mind and body, effective outcomes argon expected to be attained.Mentors are in any case to guide their students to reach their desired state of existence. Zen practice thus, is for the intention of imitating the exact exercises of the experts. They are to convalesce their way towards becoming the Zen themselves and reach their own enlightenment without a point of comparison (Brussat, 2007). embody Zen Buddhism on Philosophy The significance of acquiring and owning the Zen mind can help people to determine and so practice the right way of living, the right manners, postures and the beliefs which would hone the total personality of an indivithreefold.Further, it is too beneficial for introspection and knowing oneself better. Upon knowledge of oneself, one could possibly avoid the harms of the unknown, and alike it would enable the individual to be in overcome of ones unconscious drives and distracting areas o f ones personality. Thus, one could change or dispose the negative scenario like illness, negative thoughts, faces and emotions, etc. Buddhism indeed, is a very substantial and hearty course of practice which has to be learned by every individual. Moreover, it could be learned through self-study of the Zen practice so that readers could integrate the relationship of the mind and the matter, and the matter itself to the temperament as one and dual entities. Zen presupposes that there is ceaselessly 2 sides in every story as there were two sides in a coin (Suzuki, 2006). Zen Philosophy teaches that there is just a thin line marking the difference between the Zen mind and the Beginners mind. Both have the capacities to reach its nirvana or transcendental state of mind though they contain differences with their corresponding characteristics. In the text, it suggests that deed and application of the Zen Buddhism is what you call the Beginners mind. It is the state of mind where there are no preconceived notions, desires or hopes, opinions, and biases. Beginners mind tends to teach the significance of identifying situations in the here and now. It is characterized by humble acceptance of ignorance and complete innocence which is resolved by investigating on other potential possibilities with the use of querying and asking and later on defining who you are and where you are at present.Suzuki in his book, Zen mind, Beginners mind described this difference by implying that the beginners mind is more opt to think of many ifs and onlys before carrying out a specific action, but for a Zens mind, there are only few factors to consider. Therefore, an individual for a Zens mind, need not work over anxious and worried about several things at the like time, for the Zens mind has more expertise since it has tried on the various trials before being able to attain their goals in life (Zenkei & Hartman, 2001). Zen Buddhism on PsychologyPsychologically speaking, with the use of ones mind or ones psyche, body would be in unison with the mind and so reach its transcendental feeling of freedom and thus, unite with the nature. The outcome could be interpreted always as both right and wrong depending on the consequences of the choice of action. In Zen Buddhism, proper posture, alert exercises to gain control over ones body and mind are taught to meditate and get in touch, to commune, and be in union with the Buddha which is residing in every individual. Moreover, this self-help book by Suzuki offers the instructions on how to accurately execute each proper way of meditation through body and breathing exercises. These obviously matters to teach individuals reach their righteous state of mind. Upon understanding cognition in terms of mental analysis, if an individual thinks a certain way, one would certainly feel the same way and predicts the action that precedes the exacting outlook. So, when one thinks positive, the individual invites more positive energ y and therefore ternions to desirable outcomes. The opposite thing chance when one is manipulated by negative thoughts and practices (Zenkei & Hartman, 2001). Generally, Suzuki emphasizes that the Zen Buddhism does not limit the human mind and human person into two choices or variations. Black and white does not exist barely black or white are possibilities that may or may not exist. Life and death for instance, is also both exhaustible and infinite. The point is that no one holds the standards to determine what it is from what it is not so no people have to be anxious about what really is the fact. The most important thing is living in the present and cherishing the moment. liveness in the here and now is being a human who maximizes and actualizes ones full potential. Therefore, to be a fully functioning person, an individual should learn the practice of Zen to feel each part of your body and the body of nature, in order to believe and live the present as it plays a authority i n everybodys being. Life is worth to be cherished and understood to reach transcendental nature and share the knowledge and experience gained to others (Suzuki, 2006). Steps on how to execute the Zen practice were enumerated and explained by Suzuki. The significance of the forms on the flow of energies from nature into the body and vice versa were primarily emphasized to explain the physical benefits of the exercise. To gain a preview of how the posture should be, Suzuki teaches that the spine should be in upright position and not slouched, the ears and shoulders should be aligned and in a relaxed position and that the chin should be drawn inwards. Proper deed and general practice of the forms should make a person gain congruence over ones body and mind and would hinder a persons state of imbalance. In so doing, an individual could exit at best and think rational at all times instead of the useless idling, unwelcome sleepiness, sluggishness, or laziness. Another example is Suzuki s explanation of the proper way if academic term people sit should not slouch nor face the back or the sides. It is imperative to practice the right way of sitting be prepare this holds the central focus of the Zen practice. Further, it is through the concentration of fulfilling the action that a person reaches the desired state of mind, and not by following any standards of expert executioners of the several exercises (Suzuki, 2006).In the aforementioned link of the Zen practice to cognitive psychology, it was implied that how a person thinks is how a person feels and predicts what a person will do. arousal produces a response and the conditioned stimulus in Zen practice is the attempt to internalize the feeling brought about by execution of the Zen exercises. On the other hand, the response after carrying out the exercises would lead a person to bring oneself into a specific state of mind in which the body also responded. Therefore, it is how a person performs the exercises tha t they define and express themselves or who they believe they are.Just like a dancer, every step in the dance lends specific message, meanings and expression for the dancers part. In addition, unconscious gestures convey the counter meaning like lack of interest for those people who slouch in sitting piece of music inside in a lecture session. This improper usage of the body produces an outcome of inattentiveness and divided up attention. So, the thing that a person should do, is to become aware of such uncontrollable forces and be in control of them before they govern people (Suzuki, 2006). At first, the book Zen mind, Beginners mind may be hard to understand. However, as you go along and read between the lines, Suzuki uncovers the truth of reaching enlightenment through simple knowledge and acceptance of oneself. Furthermore, by going in the flow and carrying out the right procedures of the Zen exercise one would reach the transcendental nirvana. For beginners, it may be perplex ing to understand the ironies of Suzukis language yet the simple thought of the context is simply not to interfere with the past nor the future but to dwell and cherish the present as it is the most practical and important aspect of a persons life.By living the here and now an individual would not have to wander ones thoughts and so the body would become one with the mind and integrate its mechanisms and functions. With knowledge and application of the Zen, life would be more pleasing and smooth flowing without the distractions and vexations to the soul, body, and mind. Zen mind, Beginners mind is indeed a fascinating masterpiece that shares the secret of a happy, good, and virtuous life. Having a copy of the book is recommended for it is very worthwhile (Suzuki, 2006).The different procedures of the Zen were concisely summarized in this single comprehensive book. This book would help people realize the several options in life which would make people think objectively and not become rigid. It opens the mind of its readers that there are always two sides of the coin. Thus, in life, people should avoid unnecessary worries and anxieties that vex the spirit and the flow of positive energy that reflects in the body and the gestures. According to the Zen, blocked energies usually cause sickness of the physique and imbalance in the body form.Upon acquiring the Zens mind by reading this book, one would be exhilarated with the astonishing outcome. However, put into account that outcome of desirable execution of exercises with standards performed by other people is not the goal of a Zens mind. The goal of a Zens mind is to free ones mind and the body of extremes to settle for delight and happiness by enjoying the present being Moreover, remember that comparing oneself to others just cause vanity and resentment (Russell, 2005). ConclusionZen mind, Beginners Mind is a book created by Shunryu Suzuki in attempt to introduce the practice of Zen Buddhism in American culture . The study of Buddhism is essential for Suzuki believed that it can be applied to everyday mechanisms of life. The significance of acquiring and owning the Zen mind can help people to determine and therefore practice the right way of living, the right manners, postures and the beliefs which would hone the total personality of an individual.
