Discuss the effectiveness and value of the freedom rides. What did they progress to?

Within this essay I will firstly be discussing the New South Wales liberty Rides and what in incident they were toilsome to achieve, furthermore their effectiveness in awakening our society to the human beings of Australian racism. Prior to 1965 was a homophobic time in Australian history, particularly in tattle to the social discriminatory barriers which existed between uncreateds’ and Australia’s white European population (Taffe, 2007). The Freedom Rides idea was sparked in 1964 when a group of Sydney university students were protesting outside the unite States Consulate for Negro civil rights. The students were asked why they were not in fact fighting for the lack of civil rights occurring in their own ‘backyard’ (Ford, 1965, p.5). This judgement was taken to heart, as within a few months these university students were center their time on forming an organisation specifically for Aboriginal rights, resulting in the formation of, Student Action for Aborigines (SAFA) (Ford, 1965, p.5).

In February 1965, SAFA sent a bus load of students to investigate and report back Aboriginal conditions in the NSW towns of Walgett, Gulargambone, Kempsey, Bowraville and Moree (Taffe, 2007).
